"Excellent hotel for exploring and a weekend getaway"

Great experience at this Marriott. I travelled here with my wife for a long weekend at the end of a business trip of hers. It was my first time in San Francisco and I chose this location for the proximity to some of the key places to explore. Located right between Fisherman’s Wharf and the start of Little Italy it has great options for you to walk out the door to choose the experience you want. Go away from the wharf and the touristy area and there is incredible dining options to explore. Go towards the wharf and you are couple of blocks from Ghirardelli Square, the waterfront, views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the two main cable car lines, the trolley lines along the Embarcadero, a 15 minute walk to the Alcatraz Ferry and all the touristy areas. As a last minute experience on Friday we hopped on the ‘E’ trolley line (per the concierge’s recommendation) a block away and was at AT&T Park in 10 minutes catching a ball game. It is a 10 minute (very hilly as it is San Francisco!) walk to Lombard St or you can cheat and take the Hyde St Cable Car up to the top and walk back. Get an Uber and in 15 minutes you can go to the cliffs and beaches by Cliff House and experience the awesomeness of the Pacific Ocean with a ride that takes you right past the Golden Gate Bridge. I cannot say enough of the location. As for the hotel itself (awesome location aside) I found these things positive: • It feels smaller than the typical Marriott – almost like a boutique hotel. • The staff is super friendly. I arrived at noon on Friday from my cross country flight and reception made me feel welcome and checked me into a room right away to get settled. • Concierge was a huge help in answering for quick direction • There is no concierge lounge for elite rewards but in lieu we were given daily breakfast, complimentary drink cards for bar, free water and free hi speed Wi-Fi. Way better than have a concierge lounge! • The lobby is smaller but nice. For a couple there is a romantic vibe, for a family it is a good base for the sightseeing • Our room was a good size and had a nice view of the city looking towards the financial district. • Breakfast buffet was good and service was great. This was complimentary for us so I am not sure of costs. • Breakfast aside did not eat at hotel restaurant as we were in San Francisco and it is a great culinary city. Lots of great Trip Advisor highly rated restaurants nearby – use the app to find one that looks good to you and reserve!

Stayed at this Marriott close to the wharf. Great location, comfortable rooms, enjoyable lounge, lovely breakfast menu and superb staff. Wonderful restaurants within walking distance. 7 min walk to waterfront. Take the ferry to Sausalito for the day. Would stay here again!

"A rather disappointing stay"

We booked a two queen bedded suite, one of the most expensive rooms at this hotel and were greatly looking forward to our 4 night stay. Check-in was efficient and the staff were friendly. Our suite/room was large and the beds comfortable. The hotel is in a good location and the bathroom and shower were good but water pressure extremely low.. However, I was not comfortable in the room for several reason. Our suite was located next to a large ice machine and a beverage machine (both incredibly noisy) with a thin wall between our bed and the machines. The staff were helpful when we phoned down to reception about the noise, but the hotel was full and apparently all identical suites are similarly situated at this hotel. They kindly switched off the machines overnight agreeing they were extremely noisy, but each day they were turned on again, so we kept having to ask for them to be switched off overnight. The room furnishings were minimal and very basic, especially considering the price of the room. The view from the window was of a roof area, other adjacent room windows and especially some large air conditioners which also added to the noise level .It was quite difficult to sleep. The room was very dark and gloomy with, dark unattractive carpet and the one window at the end of a long room added to the gloomy feeling. It did not feel like a comfortable place to return to each evening. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on that. All in all I was rather disappointed with our stay.

"Concierge and housekeeping not good"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed September 17, 2017 NEW
The desk staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. We went to the Concierge for restaurant suggestions. He lifted the phone receiver when we got there. I thought he was going to conduct business. He was, his. He began ordering his dinner. Vegetarian, lots of substitutions, 5 full minutes he finally got off to do what he's paid to do. Housekeeping left dirty glasses in our room for 3 days. I came to front desk to say I appreciated clean glasses but wish they would take the 11 dirty! They had it done right away. The upside is desk staff and proximity to so much - walking distance.

We chose to stay at this hotel not only for being platinum member but also for its location. Just steps away from fisherman's wharf, for dining, walking, seeing people. The hotel itself is good, service super friendly. Breakfast buffet attends every wish.
